Akashic Designs Owner:  Liz Gregory

Akashic Designs is a small, independent, family owned business, run by Liz Gregory. She started the business in October 2008, after deciding the time had come to put her dreams of owning her own business and her love of the theatre, as well as fashion, together after over twenty years in teaching. 'I enjoyed my teaching career and I learned so much about dealing with people effectively, but I felt the time had come to spread my wings and try to fly. As my mother always used to say - Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained!'

A passion for fashion, a superb eye for colour and a perfectionist's eye for detail and clean design together with a very keen interest in finding new challenges and mastering new skills, have helped Liz to establish and begin to develop the business. She has plans for a ready-to-wear range of evening wear, as well as fancy dress costumes to hire or purchase online.

What does 'Akashic Designs' mean?

I am often asked to explain where the name 'Akashic Designs' comes from, understandably so as it is an unusual name. I have been told that the 'Akash' is a Hindu word that signifies an idea of the 'heavens', the sky, a place where spirits exist to guide and help us on our journeys through life. (Please note that I am not claiming that is true, only that I have been reliably informed of this as a definition).

Indeed the 'Akashic Records' is a concept that encompasses ideas about a repository for all souls' thoughts, words and deeds.

Friends have told me that I am intuitive, empathic and very open to ideas and thoughts, which probably helps with creativity. When I was choosing a business name, I wanted to be able to include references to these qualities and I struck upon Akashic Designs as a way to pinpoint those ideas.

Other people have pointed out to me that
'a.k.a' - 'shic'  is a bit like saying that the business 'looks like it is chic' - either way, it works for me!
